Some 2000 years ago today, someone we know was about to be put to death. The Bible said the anguish of what was to happen caused him to “sweat drops of blood” (Lk 22:44). Jesus wasn’t scared of death, for death could not hold him. But He was about to have the weight of all the sins of the world on His shoulders, fulfilling the OT prophecy in Isaiah 53:5, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.”
Can you imagine God judging you for your sin? The condemnation and threat of hellfire? Jesus was about to be judged for everyone else’s sin except for himself, for He had no sin. Jesus braved the darkest of moments so that we might have our brightest.
For whatever difficulties the COVID crisis is causing you, health, finances, jobs or relationship stress, know that Jesus went through this darkest moment so that you can look to God for everything needed. We pay the biggest respect to Jesus’ sacrifice when we look to God for supply and thanksgiving.
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32)
Don’t be afraid of God. Don’t hesitate to go before Him. Don’t hesitate to ask and receive the good gifts He has intended for you. Don’t disrespect the blood, sweat and journey into the darkness of Jesus by not going before God with a positive expectation of good.
May the impact of Good Friday make our souls tremble in a good way today.
