Song Share: Take Me With You – Samuel Lane

Over the years, many people have asked me to share the things that have helped me to get through the dark seasons. A worship musician at one point in time, I have always sought out expression that transforms the soul and is beautiful on a deeper level … especially if that expression reflects the yearnings of my soul in ways words cannot, or if it paints a picture of what my soul knows it should be, not as it is now.

In this song, running notes on consistent chords remind me of how we may feel stuck, yet something deep is changing for the better. The eye cannot see it. Doctors cannot see it. Parents cannot see it. Friends cannot see it. But you know that deep in your heart, your soul has seen it, that’s why it moves you. Your soul has seen it because God has already done it in your future but in His present and has allowed you to have a glimpse of it now.

Take Me With You

Where You go, I will follow
Where you lead, I’ll be there by Your side
Take me with You
In my fear, I will trust You
In my doubt, I will look for You to guide
Take me with You

Your will, be done
Your will, be done (be done in my life)

To live is Christ, to die is gain
To know the Father, to see His face
But I will follow, I will remain
There’s strength in Jesus, there’s joy in faith
… joy in faith, joy in faith

There’s something about that heart-cry, trusting Him. I love the part that goes “Your will, be done”, followed by “be done in my life”.

I write this after just talking to someone who reached out to me recently. This person too has lost much time with eczema to the point of having his mind subverted by … the world? He is convinced that this pain, isolation and not being able to experience that which gives fullness to our time on Earth is his lot in life. How do you fight against natural selection, faulty genes, medical authority on that matter that is subconsciously misleading, and a world not friendly to those they don’t understand?

Resigned. But this is how many of us feel – from the silent desperation from those who have it all, to the deafening dissonance to those who have the externals forcibly stripped away.

For him, it is what happens when people around follow the popular narrative and assume your situation is much more manageable than it really is. I saw the dissonance in his eyes, no words needed. Seeing my past-self in his eyes broke my heart. But just like myself, it took many years and a lot of God chipping away at me to remove all the noise (DBs) and false information that conditioned me since young. Hence the line in my poem, “A voice rings out, it sings loud, re-route this “doubt”, This King removes the decibels so we can see out.”

Double meaning. Subtract DB from “DouBt” and you get “out”. God had to convince me that human establishments may not necessarily have totally gotten it right – and that was the beginning of my lifeline. I learnt this lesson when it came to eczema, and I learnt this lesson when it came to trading the financial markets. My prayer is that it will be true in your unique situation as well.

Back to my eczema correspondence. He is very hesitant to adopt any new processes or mindset changes yet.  I was exactly the same before so I understand. I’ve had eczema since young that gradually got worse till I lost a large part of the last decade until God broke through in the last 2 years. I’ll speak more about this in later posts.

But for you friends, I encourage to keep your spirit close to His, and eventually a newness of spirit can emerge and we can forget the trappings of our former selves as well as the former world we lived in. Crying out “Your will be done” is never a bad thing. People who think God’s will is boring don’t know who Jesus is.

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words. 27 And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those He predestined He also called, those He called He also justified, those He justified He also glorified.
Romans 8:26-30

Dear Lord, take us with You. Your will be done.

Dear friends, I hope this song helps.

Hugs,
Ken

PS: if you like me to continue this Song Share series, please do add a comment below. Tell me what you think. I usually put together series of songs in specific order, a set list, that is meant to elevate the soul and to drop particular messages in the heart. Maybe I’ll do that in future?
